The Co-op Builder is a free, step-by-step online tool designed to help groups prepare the legal documents required to form a co-operative in Australia.

Updated for the Care Together Program, the Builder includes additional guidance and explanations relevant to care co-operatives and social care enterprises.

Using the Co-op Builder, you can develop a co-operative constitution, a disclosure statement (for distributing co-operatives) and supporting governance documents tailored to your co-op type.

Before you begin

You should:

  1. Choose the type of co-operative that best suits your purpose. Need help deciding? Download How to choose your co-op type
  2. Prepare a basic business plan to support your constitution development. Need guidance? Download Business planning for co-operatives

Read the instructions on Care Together’s Co-op Builder to complete your constitution.

The Co-op Builder was originally developed with Australian Government funding to support farmers and primary producers forming co-operatives.

It is adapted and published under licence from Southern Cross University by the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals and has been updated for the Care Together Program with funding from the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care.
