Co-op Builder tool
The Co-op Builder is a free, step-by-step online tool designed to help groups prepare the legal documents required to form a co-operative in Australia.
Updated for the Care Together Program, the Builder includes additional guidance and explanations relevant to care co-operatives and social care enterprises.
Using the Co-op Builder, you can develop a co-operative constitution, a disclosure statement (for distributing co-operatives) and supporting governance documents tailored to your co-op type.
You should:
- Choose the type of co-operative that best suits your purpose. Need help deciding? Download How to choose your co-op type
- Prepare a basic business plan to support your constitution development. Need guidance? Download Business planning for co-operatives
To get started, select one of the three co-operative options below.
Enter your email to begin. We will email you a document access link, allowing you to complete your constitution over multiple sittings. Your progress will be saved for up to 30 days from the start date, and can be accessed via the link emailed to you.
You will need to answer questions in the form builder. After downloading your completed constitution, you will also need to review the editable Microsoft Word document and complete any remaining sections marked in red.
Once a document has been completed, you must download it directly from the webpage in editable Microsoft Word format.
The emailed link only provides access to documents still in draft mode and cannot be used to access completed documents.
The Co-op Builder was originally developed with Australian Government funding to support farmers and primary producers forming co-operatives.
It is adapted and published under licence from Southern Cross University by the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals and has been updated for the Care Together Program with funding from the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care.
