TaskABLE Co-operative: Creating meaningful employment pathways through co-operation

The TaskABLE Co-operative Ltd in Queensland is a for-purpose, not-for-profit co-operative established to create meaningful workplace engagement for young adults with an intellectual impairment.

Founded as a member-owned microenterprise, TaskABLE performs small- to medium-sized tasks for individuals, businesses and organisations, supporting everyday needs while creating real employment experience for its team members.

The co-operative model was intentionally chosen to ensure that people, families and supporters have a voice and that the organisation remains grounded in community connection and shared purpose.

TaskABLE was created to address a gap – the lack of accessible, practical employment pathways that allow young adults with intellectual impairments to develop skills, build confidence and form meaningful connections in their local community. Through real work in real settings, team members gain experience, grow their capabilities and contribute as valued participants rather than observers.

The co-op operates with modest scale by design. Rather than pursuing rapid growth, TaskABLE prioritises care, suitability and fit – matching tasks to team members based on their strengths and the environment, and ensuring each opportunity adds value for everyone involved.

TaskABLE works with individuals, businesses and government entities that have small to medium, one-off or recurring tasks, and who are open to engaging in a mutually beneficial and respectful way. Customers consistently value not only the practical support provided, but also the positive energy, relationships and sense of inclusion the team brings into workplaces.

At its core, TaskABLE’s primary goal is simple and deliberate – to provide options for people to gain employment experience, develop skills, make community connections and share their unique personal attributes through meaningful work.
